Kushimoto / Wakayama (Japan)
Kushimoto is home to the Kushimoto Marine Park, the first of its kind designated in Japan and recognized as a Ramsar Convention wetland site in 2005. The park showcases a vibrant array of local marine life, including some of the oldest living coral in the country. Visitors can marvel at schools of bluefin tuna swimming through the impressive undersea tunnel.
A must-see highlight of any visit is Hashigui-iwa (Bridge Pillar Rocks). This striking natural formation consists of over 40 stone pillars of various sizes, stretching about 850 meters in a straight line toward Oshima Island. These majestic rocks, standing like the pillars of a bridge, are a true masterpiece of nature.
