Shimizu / Shizuoka (Japan)
Known as the gateway to Mt. Fuji, Shimizu Port is exceptionally popular among international travelers for offering some of the closest and most iconic views of Japan's sacred peak. A highlight of the area is Miho-no-Matsubara, a scenic pine-covered shore famous for the "Legend of Hagoromo" (the celestial robe). The view of Mt. Fuji from this coast is celebrated as one of the Three New Views of Japan.
For history enthusiasts, a visit to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine is a must. This is the first Toshogu shrine in Japan dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Edo Shogunate. Its main sanctuary is designated as a National Treasure, boasting dazzling and ornate architecture that marks a pinnacle in Japanese construction history.
